Stamford's Lead Nurse awarded Master's Degree
Congratulations to Stamford’s Lead Nurse, Beth Curtis, who has been awarded a Master’s Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice by the University of Lincoln.
Beth, who has been at Lakeside Stamford since 2015, combined her studies with her nursing role, which includes managing a team of 11 nurses and health care assistants.
She trained as a nurse at Nottingham University then worked in the Royal Air Force as a nurse for 13 years before moving to Primary Care. She said: ‘It has definitely been a varied career! Since gaining my Master’s I have become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner then Lead Nurse in May. I wanted to study for my Master's as I wish to keep progressing in my career, Lakeside has been very supportive with study leave and encouragement from colleagues.’
Her degree comprised of an Assessment and Diagnosis module and a Minor Illness Module and she wrote her dissertation on 'End of life care for patients with dementia', a familiar subject as she worked regularly in care homes. Now she spends more time in practice: ‘I enjoy the management responsibility I have for the nursing team. They have been through so much throughout the pandemic that I wanted the Lead Nurse role to give them some stability and a familiar face. We are a very tightly-knit team here and we are seeing lots of improvements being put into place at Stamford.’
